Meet Julie Young

Hello Everyone,

My name is Julie Young and I am the co-author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to ASMR. My good friend Ilse recently asked me to be part of the WaterWhispers team and offered me a forum on her website to share my own ASMR story and to bring you some of my insight into this phenomenon we can’t get enough of!

By way of introduction, you should know that I am an award-winning author and writer from the Indianapolis area whose work has been seen in a number of local, regional, national and international publications. I have written several books on local history including: Historic Irvington, A Belief in Providence: A Life of Saint Theodora Guerin, and the Famous Faces of WTTV-4 as well as a young adult novel entitled Fifteen Minutes of Fame and another volume for the Idiot’s Guide Series on Catholicism. I have a bachelor’s degree in professional writing as well as a master’s in education. I also have eight years experience in the medical field and in my spare time, I play in a rock band.

Like many tingle heads, I have experienced ASMR most of my life, but when I became an adult, it also occurred to me that I could also trigger the feeling in others. I began exploring the sensation seriously after the death of my mother and in 2010, I discovered its name and began to look for available research on the topic. I was amazed to learn that there was not a whole lot out there, especially considering that I knew some facets of the medical community were very aware of this concept (even if they didn’t have a name for it yet.) I began writing about ASMR, which led to my connection to a publisher, and then my approaching Ilse to co-author the Complete Idiot’s Guide to ASMR with me.

In the coming weeks, I look forward to “meeting” you all and I can’t wait to share my story and hear yours as well.

Until next time, tingle on!
